Sonoma Coast

Close-up of grapevines

Although parts of the Sonoma Coast appellation overlap with Russian River, most of the existing vineyards are set apart due to their high elevations and increased relative rainfall. The appellation stretches as far north as the Mendocino County border, and west, nearly to the ocean. Rocky soils from the uplift of the continental shelf intermingle with high amounts of clay to lay the foundation for exceptional dry-farmed vineyards.
